spending-review-2013-thumb-2On the 25th November, the chancellor will announce the outcomes of the 2015 spending review. The review was launched earlier in the summer and will determine department budgets and priorities for spending. This has the potential to have a huge impact in our sector so we eagerly await the publication.

There has been some rather calamitous rumours circulating recently regarding how the FE review will contribute towards the projected £20bn savings. At the last major review in 2010, the BIS department played a tough negotiating game before settling a budget. I'm sure this time around similar strategic risk taking will be required.

Most of the FE providers we work with are awaiting with apprehension the announcements in November, although before these announcements updated financial plans in response to the July cuts need to be submitted before the end of this month.

Other things to look out for over the next quarter;

  • Development work around apprenticeships, consultations on the proposed Levy and status
  • Consultation on outcome based success measures
  • Destination and earnings data due for publication in the next couple of weeks
  • Reform programme around functional skills
  • Post Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) form 1st October 2015

Although the sector is perhaps a little unstable at the moment, we are going form strength to strength, recruiting more staff members, working with more FE colleges and PTPs whilst maintaining the world class standards we've set ourselves in every department over the last 18 months.

We will be adopting our usual growth strategy here at TQUK over this next quarter; hard work!

Best of luck!
