What is End-Point Assessment?

End-Point Assessment (EPA) is the final evaluation that apprentices undergo to assess their knowledge, skills, and behaviours. Conducted by an independent End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) chosen by the employer, EPA ensures an impartial assessment and determines the final grade.

Before the apprenticeship begins, the employer selects an EPAO, often with guidance from the training provider. Functional Skills qualifications in English, Math, and ICT or equivalent must be achieved by the apprentice prior to the EPA stage.

During the gateway stage, the apprentice's progress is evaluated by the employer, training provider, and apprentice. All requirements, including on-program qualifications and finalised projects, must be completed. If ready, the apprentice proceeds to EPA.

The EPA is conducted by experienced professionals, known as End-Point Assessors, employed by the EPAO. They schedule and conduct various assessments tailored to the apprenticeship standard, evaluating the Apprentice's knowledge, skills, and behaviours. Upon successful completion of all assessments, the EPAO requests a certificate from the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) on behalf of the apprentice. The ESFA aims to issue certificates within 10 working days.

EPA provides a robust conclusion to the apprenticeship journey, ensuring apprentices' readiness and validating their skills and competencies.
